DIEHARD™
Transplant "naturalizes" trees and shrubs and ground with beneficial
organisms that all plants have evolved with but generally are void
of when produced in a commercial nursery. Nursery grown plants are
manipulated in every way the nurserymen has at his/her disposal to
produce plants in the fastest, most efficient, way. The result is
that the plants, although looking great, and meeting the buyers
specifications (i.e., right size, looking great, etc.), are very
fragile because they are missing many of the natural systems that
they will need when planted in the landscape.
DIEHARD™
Transplant is
formulated as a tree and shrub transplant backfill amendment to
inoculate landscape plants when planted with live beneficial
mycorrhizal fungi, which nursery plants generally do not have, and
nearly one hundred other ingredients to "complete" the plant and the
ground in which the transplant is planted. This results in quick
root establishment and less transplant shock and stressed plants.
It contains highly selected endomycorrhizal fungi and
ectomycorrhizal fungi that will quickly colonize the roots of new
transplants to provide the best possible conditions for the roots to
become as effective as possible during the establishment period and
beyond. Both endo and ectomycorrhizal inoculants are combined with
humic acids, Trichoderma, stimulants, beneficial bacteria,
soluble sea kelp, yucca plant extracts, to promote rapid root
development. Included in the formulation
is a water management gel to reduce transplant shock and stress and
watering maintenance, and to slow release all soluble components.
The results are better survival and growth rates and less watering
for all tree and shrub transplants.

valuable tool when transplant trees and shrubs is the lowest cost
way to do their job. Everything is relative - if you can spend
$5-$10 to get a $300-$500 tree to take off like there's no tomorrow
- the only cost is the cost of not using the product. And that
can be EXPENSIVE.

Don't be fooled by the
numerous "me too" products that are following our lead in the
market. These products could be good if the ingredients were
put into them but their not. The "me too's" are around because
we've created a market (based on quality) and they want their piece
of the business. Their price is lower (to buy the business)
but the products are weak (one product out there has less "value"
ingredients in a 50 pound bag than is in our 8 ounce DIEHARD™
Transplant bag). So like a lot things that you can buy the
cheapest turns out to be the most expensive because it really
doesn't do anything!!

Why Is It Needed?
Transplanting:
Each 8 oz. bag of
DIEHARD™ Transplant
will treat a 2 inch caliper tree or shrub.
Sprinkle dry into planting hole while transplanting trees and
shrubs adjacent to the root ball in the upper
8-10 inches of the planting hole. The chart below give good
detail regarding how much to use.

Reviewer: Kit Bock - Big Tree, Inc., Lee County, Florida, USA We are commercial Landscape contractors. The spring of 2006 we were starting to install the second phase of a housing community. Specifically, building the landscape and irrigation infrastructure for the community surrounding the houses. Along the main spine road which runs through middle of the project we were to plant a vegetative buffer for the multi family buildings. This included relocating some 30'-35' Oak trees from phase 3 to this buffer. The relocation went fine. No, we did not use Diehard! Following the transplanting, irrigation bubblers were added to meet the individual watering requirements of these oaks. The trees flushed out with new foliage. They looked great, everyone was please. They would provide a great buffer in the years to come! Well not really. A week or so later, the largest of the trees, in the middle of the buffer, was brown. Following some quick investigation and dealing with instant displeasure from our client we discovered the problem. As commonly occurs with construction sites, the water supply had been shut off. A few days earlier, a contractor had hit the irrigation mainline, shut off the water, made the repair and forgot to turn it back on. This was not good. After years of transplanting oaks I knew that if the tree flushed in the spring and then lost its leaves for what ever reason it was done. Especially, in this case. This was a transplant. Not a container grown tree that had not lost a good portion of its original root system in the root pruning over that past six months. I told my client and my landscape manager to remove the tree to the trash pile. I would come up with five or seven tall palms to replace the canopy and in a year the buffer would be reasonable again. My client agreed with my assessment as there were not any trees left on the site to relocate. I left the site in my landscape managers’ hands. A week later at our weekly meeting I inquired about the replacements. My landscape manager informed me that they would not be needed. I was annoyed with his response, when he informed me that he had excavated around the tree and added diehard and increased the watering regiment. I told him that this was a wasted effort and weeks would pass with a dead tree in the middle of the site. This is not the best advertising! He insisted on giving it a chance. Three weeks later the tree flushed for a second time. Late spring 2007. I saw The tree last week, it is thriving. This is the only time I have seen a tree so far gone come so far back from brown dehydrated limbs to thriving. A couple of changes have taken place as a result. We employ the use of Diehard for many things now in our landscape and transplanting efforts and I don't question my Landscape manager’s judgment.

We don't have many plants die and if one does die its usually because the customer did'nt follow through with the recommended after care. In December 2006 I planted 32 White Spruce to line a horse coral and I decided not to use DIEHARD on one tree. I marked that tree with a wire flag. In July 2007 I got a call from the customer saying one of the trees has died. When I went to remove the dead tree I found the wire flag and remembered what I did the fall before. All the other trees looked good and I made sure the replacement was treated with DIEHARD. Great Product & Company (Sunday, June 17, 2007)

Reviewer: Toms Creek Landscaping, Farmer, NC, United States We move trees and shrubs from 3gal balls all the way to using our 90" tree spade. Die hard has become a must for all B&B applications. We have a stellar survival rate and can really see the difference in root growth. On one project where 2 12" caliper willow oaks were moved and unfortunately died due to the client's lack of desire to water we upon replacement noticed the HUGE volume of root growth after just 8 months in the ground. It was defiantly due to diehard. We Will Not Plant Without It From Here On Out!! (Wednesday, May 09, 2007)

We lost all four trees that were not treated with DIEHARD Transplant and only one that was. This has been the driest year on record here with year-to-date rainfall only 33% of normal as of May 31. Recently I took the time to go back and see if there were any differences. To my delight nearly all of the trees that we replanted along county roads were not only alive but were actually established and thriving. I've been doing this type of work for a long time. In these conditions I expect losses. From that moment on we do not plant anything without DIEHARD Transplant.
