There
are many areas in which to consider the use of Horta-SorbŪ
when growing vegetables. These are in the greenhouse as
a potting media amendment at the rate of 2 pounds per cubic
yard of potting mix, as an amendment in the planting pit
as the transplanted vegetable seedling is transplanted,
preferably in wet/gel form at 1 pound per 20-25 gallons
of water (or solution), and to band the super absorbent
into the rows at the rate of 30 pounds per acre of land.
When
citrus groves are planted maintaining proper moisture in
the planting pit of the newly transplanted seedling is critical.
Using Horta-SorbŪ can make a significant difference in bringing
in the transplant to be productive faster, thereby improving
cash flow from the grove faster.
Transplanting: Mix 1 ounce of Horta-SorbŪ LG into the backfill
when planting. Pour the Horta-SorbŪ on the top of the backfill
that has been lifted and as the transplant is planted and
the soil is moved into and around the roots the Horta-SorbŪ
will mix with the fill. Do not put the Horta-SorbŪ into
the bottom of the planting pit as this is a waste of product
and will not perform as desired.
If the transplant is bare root dip also dip the roots of
the transplant into a gel consisting of one pound of Horta-SorbŪ
SM per 20-30 gallons of water. Plant as above with 1 ounce
of dry Horta-SorbŪ.

There
are very limited ways in which the use of a superabsorbent
with row crops is cost effective. If conditions warrant
you may try banding Horta-SorbŪ MD into the rows at a rate
of 30 pounds per acre. Although this amount will only absorb
800-900 gallons of water it can make a good difference especially
during the initial establishment of the plants should sporadic
rainfall, or drought be a concern. Please keep in mind that
each subsequent application of this amount of Horta-SorbŪ
will have a cumulative effect as more, and more, water retention
is available to your soil through its use.
Horta-SorbŪ MD, (0.8mm to 2.0mm), used as potting mix amendment, landscape amendment and various non-agricultural applications.

A
special formulation utilizing the latest technology for
a seed coating to obtain the maximum germination by holding
moisture next to the seeds. The seed coating also contains
a broad span of micro-nutrients and nitrogen fixing cultures
for better growth.
Moisture captured at time of planting by Horta-SorbŪ SC
flakes provide for better and quicker germination. Holding
water on the seed helps to soften the outer shell of the
seed permitting faster germination, and a better germination
rate. The chitin within the seed coating helps in the reproduction
of microbes naturally existing in the soil. Also included
is a special microbial culture, Aspergillus Oryzae, to help
condition the soil and fix nitrogen from the soil and atmosphere.
Horta-SorbŪ SC is capable of fixing nitrogen up to 25 lbs.
per acre.
The soil contains both beneficial and detrimental microbes
that affect both plants and soil. Many of the beneficial
microbes contain a chitin emsyne, therefore chitin is used
in the mix to start a rapid reproduction of these beneficial
microbes to provide a favorable balance between the beneficial
and detrimental. The Aspergillus Oryzae produces additional
chitin to further the growth of the beneficial microbes.
This actinomycetes to bacteria ratio helps to control, or
suppress, various soil fungus and in some cases the parasitic
nematode.
Plants as well as the human body require a balance of all
minerals that are soluble. Past experience has proven specific
systems for deficiency on the soil but due to farming and
leaching this ratio is very weak in most of our farm land.
This balance in minerals can help our plants and bodies
to become healthier and more productive which helps to ward
off diseases.
Directions: Apply Horta-SorbŪ in the hopper box at the rate
of indicated below. No tackers, or stickers, are needed.
Grass seed - 1 lb. per 100 pounds of seed.
Corn and Sunflower- 1 lb. per 60 pounds of seed.
Milo, Soybeans, Wheat, Oak and Vegetable - 1 lb. to 200
pounds of seed
